Hey, thanks for the great post. I’ve been following Pat Flynn and love his “give and it shall be given unto you” attitude..my perception anyway. At 50, with a high school education, I’m trying to learn affiliate marketing from information online. What I’ve gleened so far is to focus on giving the best, most honest information, like your Parents would give you. In exchange for your efforts rewards will come.
Be honest. Talk about what you like and don’t like. Be fair and build trust. It will serve you well later. For examples, check out my review posts about Elite Blog Academy and Self Publishing 101. I get emails frequently from people who tell me they decided to purchase one of those courses through my affiliate link because it was the most balanced review they found.
So, if you display Amazon products in a sidebar widget, product showcase table or a comparison table using AzonPress-generated Affiliate links, you won’t have to manually update them ever again. The plugin will fetch data from Amazon automatically and if a piece of product information is updated on Amazon, that will be updated in your site as well.

I picked a random category in the marketplace to get an idea of the products — the general subcategory of the larger self-improvement category — and found that the first product I clicked on took me to an error page saying the URL could not be retrieved. I also noticed that the same product had terrible grammar, which didn’t fill me with confidence:
Let me show you the process, the strategy that I use to launch this. Number one, what I did is I created what’s called a pre-launch video. You’ll notice that I created this video back in December 22nd. Why did I do that? Well, I wanted to position myself so when this specific product launched and people were going to YouTube and even Google to search for this product that I was positioned at the top so my video would actually be viewed first and it would rank.
What I’m going to do is I’m going to go over to my search results here, and I’ve pulled up all the JV emails that I’m going to get from Steve and Aidan or that I’ve gotten. When we go to the JV Launch page, we want to make sure we fill this out so we can receive all the promotional material. What I’m going to do is I’m going to click this top one here, and if I go to, “Click here for full details,” it will basically give you the strategy of what email to send out to your list and when, and it will also include swipes that you should be sending out to your list on any given day. It’ll say, “Okay, on Monday, you need to send out this email. On Tuesday, you need to send out this email,” so on and so forth.
For example, if I talk about how cool a product is, and then you find out that I’m an affiliate for them, wouldn’t you as a conscientious observer become skeptical as to whether my information is biased, if perhaps I’m only saying how cool something is because I can get paid for it? Wouldn’t that make you question my integrity with other things I say as well?

I just finished reading Kevin Ulaner's book and I am definitely impressed. I've been studying affiliate marketing through various resources and this book clicked on the light. Very easy to read, great layout from how to get started, what to look for, and how to implement the ideas. I was impressed with the fact that I finally got how to log into Amazon and get my affiliate account up and running, where and what to research for niche ideas and organic research and content building...This is definitely the book to get when you're first starting out to help you understand the process of affiliate marketing. So get your pen and highlighter out and use this great resource to get you started on the right track for creating your affiliate marketing goals.

From our chat with an Amazon Associates customer service representative, Amazon says that their position on the use of Amazon Associates links in YouTube content is “not public information”. Therefore, we cannot present you with what exactly we were told. You also cannot find their rules, specific to the use of Amazon Associate links, documented anywhere on their website despite the fact that they have “guidelines.”

Affiliate marketing is fully a part of this advertising landscape. It’s not inherently better or worse than any other form of advertising, but you may find that the format and the side benefits of becoming an affiliate marketer are just what you need to start making money online and to eventually do the things you want to do and make a living from doing it. Getting to that point won’t be easy and it won’t happen overnight, but with enough skill and enough hard work it’s at least possible.
If I go over here, you’ll notice that I actually created a bonus. If somebody bought the 7-Figure Cycle product, you’ll notice that I created three bonuses. You want to make sure that these bonuses compliment the product. If you’ve got an eCommerce product that you’re going to be launching, that you’re going to be promoting, then you probably don’t want to be promoting a bonus that has to do with, let’s see, with trying to make money by buying and flipping domains, just not relevant.

When you include an affiliate link in your description be sure to say somewhere that it is an affiliate link. This can be in the form of a disclaimer at the bottom of your video description or as a parenthetical notation right next to the link. Also be sure to say what product it is for. Nobody likes being tricked into landing on iTunes or Amazon when they think they are going to an artist’s fan page or the ultimate zombie survival blog.
If you don’t have the skills to build yourself a top-notch site or design compelling graphics, invest in a quality designer and copywriter to help you get your project off the ground. They’ll be able to help you set up your business for successful conversion. After all, if you’re going to put the time into starting a new venture, don’t you want to succeed?
"Since taking Michelle's course 5 months ago, my monthly page view average has been 36,715 but my affiliate marketing income has grown from an average of $272.94 per month to $4,400.19 per month. That’s more than 1,500% growth! Within just 5 quick months, I’ve made more than $21,000 directly from the affiliate marketing tips in this course…. I made more than $10,000 in just March 2017 alone! Low page views is not an excuse for low affiliate marketing income. You don’t have to struggle to earn a few dollars a month. Invest in yourself & get educated to start building your business right away. Let Michelle show you how an expert does it!" - Saira Perl, Blogger, MomResource
The easiest way is to recommend products (mentioned in your video) using affiliate links. When someone purchases a product through your affiliate link, you get a commission from the sale. You’re basically promoting someone else’s product for a commission. I make $1,000/month doing this and it’s my second largest source of income next to SEO consulting.

WooShop has a customizable homepage that includes a responsive slider at the top to promote your most popular or highest converting offers. You can choose from three different types of grid layouts for the homepage sale listings and add as many product categories as you want. Visitors will appreciate the optimized product and cart pages. WooShop is also optimized for AdSense ads and SEO-ready to help bring more visitors into your site.
While affiliate networks (like Shareasale) are suited rather for affiliates with no particular strategy, I’d suggest you choosing SaaS affiliate programs (software as a service) if you want to work independently on a large scale. SaaS affiliate programs are usually much higher paying, due to the value of software they offer. While it may take a bit more effort to find a customer for B2B-oriented software, revenues from closed deals are incomparable. What’s even more enticing, some of SaaS affiliate programs sell monthly recurring licenses and - therefore - offer fixed recurring commissions!
This is the best course on how to make money on CB I've seen so far. It takes you from the most basic things that you need to know to the best ways to really make money from CB. Kc Tan knows his stuff really well because he practices what he teaches and gives us real examples. I really like this course and will definitely recommend it to anyone who wanted to start making real money from CB affiliate program. 5 stars!" – Frederic Talis

Ok, as an Affiliate Marketing Dummy, you might feel a bit confused now. This post about SEO from LiveChat’s blog will make the concept pretty obvious while this article from Yoast will help you avoid all the mistakes, rookie affiliate marketers tend to make. What you have to remember is to search for RIGHT keywords related to your niche, instead of for the best ones. How to search for them? You’ll find Adwords Console Keyword Planner extremely useful here. Try to optimize your website for phrases with min. 500 and max. 15,000 monthly organic searches. Those are usually relatively easy to get your content rank high in Google. That strategy won’t bring you millions of visitors overnight, but can attract attention of few potential customers everyday.

Quarterly strategies are the best idea to judge your blogging results because they are not too long-term. On the one side, this makes them more flexible and easier to adjust as you go, especially, when you see that some approach is not performing as expected, on the other side, the research for it is not that demanding and laborious as creating an annual blogging strategy.
However, it’s important to remember that it isn’t necessarily a “get rich quick” plan. The idea is appealing because you can dream of eventually being able to earn a residual income/passive income, but you will need to put in quite a bit of work to get your business off the ground. If you’re willing to do the work, though, you can find your own success.
Do they value and help their affiliates? Some affiliate programs do an exceptional job of communicating with their affiliates, notifying them of upcoming sales, offering marketing advice or tools, offering contents and prizes during promotions and more. These types of affiliate programs are a pleasure to be a part of. Ultimate Bundles is an excellent example.
This is a VERY high quality course with an Instructor who really cares about his students. I learned so much in such a short amount of time and loved that KC covered all bases throughout this course!! I will be giving this oh-so-simple system a go tomorrow and highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for an easy way to get in the affiliate game." – Jamie Briggs
Since then I’ve made millions of dollars online. I’m writing this article to show you exactly how Clickbank works, how you can get started with Clickbank if you’re a complete beginner. What are the pros and cons of using Clickbank as an affiliate marketer and how you can get started making money pretty much right now? Because I’ll never forget the feeling I felt.
You will need to give your affiliate program a name, give it a description, and specify what type of program it is. Are you going to be paying affiliates a commission? Or a flat fee? All of this can be handled from this section. Next, you need to enter the page you want customers redirected to after they click on the affiliate’s link or banner. For example, most program usually send the customer to the home page of the store. You can do this by specifying from this page. Enter your WordPress website home page on the landing page field below.
Anyone selling digital products online has probably already heard of Clickbank for affiliate marketers, one of the world’s largest affiliate networks. Whether you’re an experienced affiliate marketer or just starting out, you may want to consider using the platform. Clickbank currently connects some 12,000 vendors with more than 100,000 affiliates, and it also has a good reputation for on-time payment. However, the platform is not without fault either, and affiliate marketing is not as easy as many people might claim. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the most significant pros and cons of this major affiliate network and online payment processor.
The researchers next investigated the text of content with affiliate links and analyzed whether they made any disclosures about their economics to users. Among content that had affiliate links, 10.49% of YouTube videos and 7.03% of pins on Pinterest had disclosures. Worse, the disclosure language recommended by the FTC was only included on roughly 2% of affiliated content across the two platforms.
While you can add these income generating affiliate links to any WordPress website and theme, choosing a theme that has been created especially for this purpose has many advantages. One common feature of these affiliate WordPress themes is that they make it very easy to publish professional looking reviews. These reviews can highlight the best and worst aspects of each item, along with other useful features such as product comparisons, star ratings, video and images galleries, and lots more.
Do you know what affiliate marketing is? Do you know how it works, or what makes it different from the usual per-click advertising scheme used by other sites and programs? Do you know how to make a living through affiliate marketing? Can you run a successful website? Do you even know what SEO stands for? If you weren’t able to answer most or all of these questions, then what you need is an Affiliate Marketing for Dummies course. And luckily for you, that’s just the sort of website you’ve discovered.

Post Affiliate Pro is an affiliate software for tracking leads, registrations, and sales commissions. It comes as a free version installed as a WordPress plugin or you can make use of the hosted Post Affiliate Pro version, depending on your needs. You can set up your affiliate software with a complete set of affiliate marketing features. The free version is slim on the feature while the Pro version boasts hundreds of features.
What I did is I went to JVNotifyPro, and you can go to either one of these. On MunchEye.com, you can see the big launches on the left-hand side here. This is typically all the launches that are going to have a lot of affiliates. We can also go to JVNotifyPro. We can scroll down here, and what I did is I went to January 23rd. This was back around the end of December, and I saw this offer by Aidan Booth and Steve Clayton. It’s The 7-Figure Cycle. It’s an eCommerce product, and what I did is I looked at the Clicks to JV page. If this over 1,000 unique clicks, even over 500, it means it’s going to be a pretty popular product. It’s going to be a good launch.
No links…that’s what has me so confused by all of it. I received snail mail from these affiliates with this info, my tax gal says something to do with the IRS but when I go looking for info….there’s lots of confusion. I’m as mixed up as a swirley on this. I pay income on everything and don’t take stuff I know I could because my …tax gal’s from a different era and…well…it’s REALLY hard explaining this job to someone that remembers when computers weren’t even invented. Och I need a new number cruncher.
hey sean, am a newbie who is so ethusistic about online marketing. great post , i must commend , it came in handy. through your post i clearly understand that an affiliate mustr have a website and a blog as a platform for promoting the good and services. here the thing with me , i dont have either of them and am asking ….. is it advisable for me to delve in affilate marketing peradventure i get a blog running now …?
Nick Schäferhoff is an entrepreneur, online marketer, and professional blogger from Germany. He found WordPress when he needed a website for his first business and instantly fell in love. When not building websites, creating content or helping his clients improve their online business, he can most often be found at the gym, the dojo or traveling the world with his wife. If you want to get in touch with him, you can do so via Twitter or through his website.
You can test the plugin by visiting Post Affiliate Pro’s online demos. Options include site owner, the affiliate signup and the merchant signup — far more extensive than Magic Affiliate’s demo. Post Affiliate Pro increases tracking reliability by combining first and third party cookies and offering a safeguard (IP address tracking) in the case of cookie failure.
Think, they came again after two days and bought what they wanted to buy the other day. Nope, what you’re thinking will not happen. You’re not going to get the commission if the purchase is made after more than 24 hours since that user entered Amazon clicking your affiliate link. Also, the cookie gets wiped out right after someone completed the purchase through your link.
You’ll Always Get Paid On Time. We’ve built our reputation by paying our affiliates on time, everytime for 17 years. You can choose to get paid as often as every week, through multiple payment options. Also, thanks to ClickBank’s HOPLINK™ tracking system, you’ll always get credit for your sales even if a customer waits up to 60 days to purchase after clicking your link.

Justine has managed affiliate programs for companies such as Shopify and Freshbooks. She is able to give this course a fresh prospective - from that of an affiliate manager! This is an amazing bonus that will show you how to always get approved to an affiliate program. She has assessed thousands of applications over the years and there's a lot that goes into the yes/no.

Thanks so much fir a great helpful post. Sorry fir this newbie question, but if I want an affiliate stre( not just product links at the end if a blog) do I need an ecommerce plugin as well or can I just combine affiliate links onto an ordinary page. Not trying to reinvent the wheel but wondered what’s the best way? Ideally like to sell books with an option for purchasing them from different merchants. Many thanks for your help.
They’re going to be sending out emails to their list saying, “Hey, go check out 7-Figure Cycle. Jump on this webinar and learn about 7-Figure Cycle.” What’ll happen is people will go on the webinar, and then after the webinar, they’ll go off, and they’ll go search around YouTube and Google to find other reviews on this product to find out if it’s really legitimate. To add to that, they’ll look for bonuses, and bonuses are basically other products that people will be offering as a bonus in conjunction with 7-Figure Cycle.
Let’s go to the field of gardening, for instance. A site dedicated to gardening is appealing on its own. One more specialized site about a very specific aspect of that field is even better. You might create a site focusing on desert landscape plants or ornamental vines. Look at how detailed or distinct your focus is so you know what deserves to be targeted.
Another thing to consider is that even if you break even on the first sale, you’re still winning. All you need to do is create more content about other problems that target market may have following the same principle and queue them one after the other. For example if we target women that want to lose weight they may also have wrinkle problems, digestion problems, diabetes, aging problems etc. We can easily create a chain of issues we run the email list through, let them opt in for what matches their issues and make several sales to that audience.

I want to start this off by saying that as a part-time blogger, I share the collective dream of all of you—seeing that beautiful passive income enter my bank account while I drift off to sleep, watching the latest episode of Parts Unknown, imagining a world where I can freely travel the globe, drink beer with sultans and local celebrities, indulge in street-side delicacies, and be completely unaffected by the 9-5 grind.
"Think of affiliate ads as additional resources that complement your content," says Truong. "Don't put up a list of your favorite books, hoping people will click on the affiliate link and purchase the books just because you listed them. Take some time to write a detailed review, and use affiliate ads to point them in the right direction if they decide to act on your information."

By building brand awareness, you can also increase your market share. Building an audience through brand awareness is more valuable than direct sales for more than 70 percent of brand managers. Your audience begins to recognize you as the go-to for information they can use in your specific niche. Whether it’s a product review, life hack, or best way to post to social media, your audience increases in size because your brand is being seen by some who otherwise wouldn’t have visited your blog.
Think about affiliate link placement in your posts. I can often tell a blogger’s intention is to monetize a post with an affiliate link. However, there will be either a gigantic introduction (lots of words!) or other links (that take the reader away from the post) before the affiliate link shows up once. Eliminate distractions. Put your affiliate link as close to the beginning of a post as works naturally. And of course disclose first.
If you’re looking for great examples of people making good money on ClickBank, check out this post by AuthorityHackers as they detail the strategy they followed to make thousands of dollars on ClickBank every month. Warren Wheeler of AMNinjas also recently wrote case study explaining how he was able to bring a brand new affiliate website from $0 to $300+ per day in less than 3 months with ClickBank. Both of these posts discuss relatively different strategies. I’m actually going to get into both of those strategies as well as my recommended path to follow for beginners (and why I think beginners should follow it).
Thank you Kim for your wonderfully helpful posts! I have learned so much from you in just a short amount of time since just recently discovering your site. I just started this process with affiliates a couple weeks ago and have a blog on wordpress.com. After some research I discovered that WordPress will not allow you to post banners on your blog unless you have a substantial amount of traffic to your blog (which is my situation). Links are okay as long as they are pertinent to your content like a book your are reading, etc. In light of this, I was curious to know if there is a big difference in response to banners vs. links? Thank you! Blessings~ Jan

Thank you for sharing your advice on Amazon and affiliate marketing. I just recently joined Amazon and have been updating my blogs using your techniques. Hopefully it works for me like it has worked for you, granted I know now based on your experience that I probably won’t see any big income from it for awhile but it is really nice to know I am on the right track to some success in the future.

I would like to add that for information products, a lot of the time it’s pretty easy to rank for “information product review”. I recently did a review of a popular ebook that is a month long discipline program. I went about it by doing the actual program and documenting everything. At the end of the month I wrote up a 2700 word article summing up the whole experience.

I got a question about the funnel. You were talking about the first page to be a blog page. I interpreted it as having you own blog(website), that should compete with other expert website. I was wondering if the first step of your funnel can be the opt-in page. The blogs that refers to the opt-in page are guestblogposts on expert websites, so multiple ways of traffic and seo. So you are only building an opt-in page, thank you page, landing pages etc on your website, but no blog to become an expert. Is that something you can do? Or is that not Google friendly or most expert websites are against?
You can build greater trust with visitors. When affiliate links are used properly, you’ll build even more trust with visitors. This means always directing them to Amazon products that are relevant to the topic at hand. Conversely, any attempts to deceive by pushing them to unrelated links or to untrustworthy products could hurt trust (and get you banned by Amazon), so be careful.
Brands recognize the value of affiliate marketing, and that’s evident through digital spending. As of 2016, 81% of brands and 84% of publishers leverage affiliate marketing (including Ryan here on his blog). While there’s money to be made in virtually any niche, affiliate marketing is most popular among fashion, sports, and health and wellness brands.
Great post, Sean! I have been using Adsense for the most part for two years now and each year, due to great content, my income has doubled. Thanks for all the great content, and this is sure to open my eyes a bit more to the likes of Amazon, which, I will admit, I have been ignoring due to the way they treat their affiliates. But, maybe it’s just me being a turd….
Techwise has been built to accommodate video content as easily as it does the written word. So if you are creating video reviews for your website, then this theme could be a good choice. When it comes to publishing reviews, another nice feature is that it’s easy to create side by side comparisons that really let your visitors make an informed decision when it comes to picking the right project.
Many online retailers offer affiliate programs (Amazon Associates is one of the biggest and most well-known). It’s also possible to register with an affiliate program like Commission Junction, ShareASale and ClickBank, all of which offer a huge variety of physical and digital products and services from hundreds of different companies, all in one place.

Finch Sells is a great resource if you’re new to affiliate marketing, since Finch describes how he got started with affiliate marketing, explains how the industry is segmented and provides advice on how you can begin in an easy-to-understand and comical way. He also provides a priceless Survival Kit and a list of resources that ranges from blogs to events to tools.

Luke Kling started blogging in 2004 and is now the Affiliate Manager for PeerFly, Inc. PeerFly is an affiliate ad network that uses custom-built software. His blog is separate from PeerFly, Inc. but it still provides more than enough advice for affiliate marketers. For example, Luke has created The Affiliate Marketing Guide that shares tips on getting started and how to successfully run marketing campaigns on Facebook.
Nice tips here, Steve. I’ve been a huge fan of YouTube for niches other than IM-related stuff. Apart from a few outliers, my Blogging Bookshelf and The Backlight videos never got too many views. How do your SSS vids fare? My Amazopia videos, though, have 220,000+ views now and are the main source of traffic for the blog. And I know you’ve said in the past that you get lots of YouTube traffic for your main niche.
After uploading it, you can active the Omnistar Affiliate WordPress plugin. In the settings of the plugin, it is going to ask you to enter the application url. The application url is the url of where your Omnistar Affiliate Software is hosted. Here’s an example: http://youraccount.ositracker.com Once you do this, Omnistar Affiliate Software is installed and you can now create your affiliate program.
Affiliate marketing software simplifies and amplifies word of mouth for your product. Building a tribe of affiliates allows you to tap into their traffic, their sources and their customers. They wouldn’t be an affiliate if they didn’t believe in your product. They know promoting a product affects their reputation. And they’re not going to risk the rep on a so-so product.

I’m not sure of the exact reasons why I started to rank, but I have a few theories. It was a very long, honest, and informative post on the subject. I believe this made it stand out from all the other reviews in which the author just wrote up a basic summary of what it’s about. It also is one of the latest reviews on the book, so perhaps google freshness has something to do with it. I haven’t done any linkbuilding on this page and it currently sits at #2.

Frank, thanks for this primer one of my favorite business topics. I like your style. You wrote this “take Me By The Hand” kinda post and it works for me. I know that we all recommend products and services to friends and family members and never even think about getting paid. “Hey guy you ought see this movie, or eat that food, or buy those jeans.” When was the last time a company paid you consistently for your referrals? Some do I’m sure but most do not give you a dime to drive people to their store. Yet we make buying referral willing all the time.
With the personal method, you’ll be promoting products that you’ve used before within your own life. This is simple, and doesn’t require a lot of research because you’re already familiar with the product. Maybe you’ve been using it for years, or this is your first time. If you like the product by the company you’re affiliate with, you can write a blog post or social media post about it, using your affiliate link. You’ll tell your audience what you like and dislike about the product and whether you would continue using it in your life. Be honest in your promotion, and tell people how you really feel about the product; if you are dishonest and promote for the sake of getting paid, you won’t be very successful, not matter how many products you promote.

It’s called the Global Banking Service. Check it out and get $25 USD for free after you cash in $1,000 USD just for clicking our referral link (we get a free $25, too). They used to pay that $25 USD after cashing in $100 USD but I think their awesome service gave them a wee too much success and they beefed up the bar to get your free money. But the service is great –and even though we endorse Transferwise often, we still use Payoneer for our affiliate program payouts.
"If an individual is looking to monetize their blog, I would make a strong case for affiliate marketing as the best avenue for doing so," says Josh Waldron, founder of creative design firm Studio JWAL LLC. "Blogs with quality content attract loyal readers. Since readers benefit from the content offered, they grow to trust the authors of that content over time. Consequently, an author's blog posts are a logical place to promote relevant products and services without compromising the integrity of the content."
Buy a domain name that fits your niche. Names that have keywords in them can help you rank in the search engines. For instance “SaltwaterFishTanks101.com” might be a better choice than “SaltyTanks.com,” even though the later has a better “ring” to it. Often, hosting companies will offer a free domain when you sign up for a year of hosting, so look out for offers like that.
Once you have a firm understanding of your audience, dive into your niche even further. For a healthy cooking blog, explore which brands coincide with your philosophies. Will you only support brands that use natural ingredients, are vegan-friendly, biodynamic (whatever that means), or responsibly sourced? Decide what principles you’ll follow to determine the best products for affiliate marketing through your blog.

Use affiliate links every time you can and not just for the obvious stuff but for everything you mention that can be found on Amazon. Have a recipe that uses salt? Link to that (see this example). You can link to the actual name of the product or use type: “I like to use this salt” so people actually click on the link to see what it is. I wouldn’t use this method on all links but I do use it especially when I’m listing several items.

Affiliate Marketer Training is a site dedicated to helping affiliate marketers at every step along the process. Whether you’re just starting out and you need to learn the terms of the business or you’re an experienced hand who wants to reach a new level, AMT has plenty of articles with basic and advanced tips on how to market yourself, how to search-engine optimize, how to write engaging blog posts, how to engage with others through social media, and much more. We may not be an actual Affiliate Marketing for Dummies website, but we still have all the information you need.
Find the top blogs in your niche and submit your pieces to be posted as a guest blogger. If possible, introduce yourself and get to know the blogger before sending your pitch to increase your likelihood of being picked up. There are a number of cold email templates you can use to start the conversation. Guest blogging will help increase awareness about your blog, but you also need to include an author bio (typically positioned at the bottom of the blog) with a link connecting readers to your website or an opt-in page to receive an email when you post new blogs.
Hi, Steve! Thank you for sharing this. You’re right, I shy away from making videos because I don’t believe I can make one. I enjoyed watching the video that you have prepared; it was very explanatory. I also visited Animoto and I liked it very much. I want to start making my own video now and I hope I will be successful in creating and promoting it.
